Berit Knaak University of St.Gallen Contact: email@example.com Title: Integrating Human Rights in Business Abstract: The responsibility of business with respect to human rights has come into focus following several incidents of human rights violations that involved companies. The impact that companies have on human rights – both to the positive and the negative – has been taken up in voluntary international standards, corporate codes of conduct, and UN instruments. However, there is uncertainty about the most effective ways to sustainably integrate human rights concerns in companies. Currently, research is dominated by a legal perspective and concentrates on the legal obligations and on the moral and ethical foundations of corporate human rights responsibility. This dissertation project addresses the managerial perspective and analyzes what are strategic levers and measures to strengthen a company’s adherence to human rights.
