In this vein James (2002) posits that a certain trust as hope is needed. So far it seems that economic theories cannot explain what justifies having positive expectations of others whom we cannot fully control, and to whom we are vulnerable. Therefore Williamson (1993) had opted to entirely discard trust from Economics. But since many economists keep referring to trust, my dissertation enquires into the conditions of possibility to overcome these limits of rational calculation, and to provide an ethical explanation of trust as hope.
