Abstract
Current pedagogical approaches in university settings are dehumanizing. We will argue for a humanization of pedagogy through the lens of the African philosophy of Afro communitarianism. We will argue that a humanizing pedagogy informed by an Afro-communitarian perspective needs to focus on overcoming the alienation that many indigenous language speakers experience when they enter higher education. Not only the content, but also the pedagogy we employ at institutions of higher learning, should address this alienation.
