The conference African Futures in Transition marks the fifth anniversary of the Competence Center for African Research (CCAR) at the University of St.Gallen. Organized by Prof. Nadia Mazouz (ETH Zürich) and Dr. Thierry Ngosso (University of St.Gallen/CCAR), the event brings together leading scholars and practitioners from Africa and Europe to explore how decolonization, digitalization, and decarbonization are transforming African societies and ethical thought.

Over four days, participants engage in interdisciplinary discussions on gender and decolonization, community and consent in African philosophy, justice and decarbonization, digitalization and human rights, and African approaches to business ethics and trust.

Highlights include a public lecture by Ajume Wingo (University of Colorado Boulder) titled “Africans in the Shade of Power”, alongside contributions from a great variety of experts.

The conference creates a vibrant platform for dialogue on Africa’s role in shaping ethical, environmental, and digital futures - connecting philosophical reflection with real-world transformation.
