Michelle about her journey at the IWE-HSG:

"The first time I came into contact with the topic of business ethics and the IWE was on the Corporate Social Responsibility (MOK) course. The following semester, I was even allowed to fly to Singapore for a course on ‘AI and Ethics’ with Prof Thomas Beschorner. My exchange semester in Copenhagen finally awakened my interest in topics at the interface between business and society and the academic world.

At the beginning of 2024, I started my first student position at the IWE on a project on ‘Responsibility of Chambers of Commerce for Democracy’, which I was then able to pursue in my Master's thesis. Thomas as my supervisor, but also the whole team, supported me during this phase: whether with a substantive discussion or encouraging words over a coffee. The fact that I was able to benefit from the infrastructure at the IWE during my Master's thesis contributed significantly to my success. I am very grateful for this and consider it a special privilege.

At the end of March 2025, we have now received project funding from the Swiss National Science Foundation (SNSF) with colleagues at the (ZHAW) on the topic of ‘Pro-democracy corporate sociopolitical activism: Investigating the consequences of companies’ engagement against the rise of anti-democratic populism in Europe'. As part of this project, I expect to be able to pursue my academic endeavours as a doctoral student in the coming semester. I am very much looking forward to my upcoming trip to the IWE and hope to be able to make a contribution to the responsibility of companies for our society and democracy."
