In this paper, Florian Krause explores the question of what organisations actually are – entities which, in the most literal sense, make human life as we know it possible in the first place. For despite their fundamental importance, we still find it difficult to understand how or what organisations are. In particular, Krause focuses on a factor that has far-reaching consequences: belonging to an organisation can shift what people perceive as right or wrong. However, the initial premise is that this does not simply happen through coercion or because individuals lose their capacity for judgement – it must be something far more subtle.
